I have recently had a couple of conversations with Alan Wooldridge (RST Learning Curve, LRUG, AUGIUK etc.), about walls. Don’t stop reading!!! I know that sounds like the start of a very boring blog post, but it’s not!
Alan has rightly pointed out there are a number of holes in the OOTB walls (and no they aren’t for windows or doors)! See the 3 London Revit User Group slides below.
Clearly this isn’t the most efficient, understandable, or even consistent approach to walls. No disrespect to Autodesk, they do a cracking job with Revit, but, there are bigger and better uses of their time, such as developing the software and not the content. That is after all what they do!
Anyway I’m straying from the point, the walls could be better.
Enter Alan Wooldridge in conjunction with Ralph Pullinger (Autodesk).
These guys are spearheading the development of a UK based system wall family template. Here is the brief:
• Must satisfy historical, current and future needs.
• Be Flexible.
• Have a naming convention that is clear and easy to understand.
• Be consistent.
• Include material properties (the ‘I’ in BIM), weight, thermal, strength etc.
• Be properly documented for the end user.
BUT, they can’t do it on their own! Well… that isn’t totally true, but the end result will be better when WE give them a hand!
So, to the point of this post. I would like you to:
1. Visit Alans ‘Revit Structure Learnnig Curve Blog’ for the full low down on what is happening. (Direct links to relevant posts HEREand HERE)
2. Then head over to the new AUGIUK Localisation Forums and start having an input!
This is an opportunity to shape UK specific content for Revit. Go get involved.
Happy Reviting
