Why start a blog? Why start a blog about Autodesk Revit?

I think it boils down to two things…

Why start a blog? Blogs are a great source of information, some good some bad and some just wrong. But, why would someone make the decision to start a blog…

I can’t tell you other peoples reasons, but I can tell you mine. If i’m honest my reasons come from a largely selfish standpoint. One of the key reasons for this blog is affirmation, as documenting my progression and resolutions to problems I encounter within revit aids my learning. Also on a selfish note, documenting my ‘finds’ on the best methods of modelling etc. within Revit, gives me a reference to which I can access anywhere I have internet access, which lets face it is pretty much anywhere!

Now, on a less selfish note, I am aware that the more instances of information there are on the internet, the easier the information is to find. From experience I have learnt that it is not always easy to find resolutions to situations that arise whilst modelling in Revit. This is reason number two. It gives me a warm glowing feeling inside to think I may be helping future generations of Revit users!

What you budding Revit folk need to understand though, is that I too am in the process of learning. I’d like to think i’m self taught, but in reality my learning can be largely attributed to the growing number of Revit blogs that reside on the internet. There is a links column somewhere on the right side bar —->> over there —->> which has a list of useful blogs. But here are my top 5…. the guys that create these blogs have made my learning of Revit considerably easier than it otherwise would have been… take a look, be inspired!

This blog has been an integral part of my learning to date. David Light is clearly the man in the know for Revit in practice.

Peter McCarthy has proven his Revit worth with this blog. I would like to say, this is aimed more at the architecture folk than the structure folk (like myself). But, if you follow Peters ‘Revit Project – The experiment’ series of tutorials, you will without doubt come away a more accomplished Revit user.

Jeffrey A. Pinheiro is the Revit Kid… and he is keen on helping all of us Revit newbies. A word of warning, this site can be tricky to navigate. But, who really cares? When there is as much info as this its inevitably going to be more difficult to manage!
